It is 10 years of the African Fashion International and the forces behind it are planning to celebrate the milestone in a big way. These are African Fashion International, owner and operator of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg 2017 as well as the project’s media anchor, African Media Agency.

A statement from AMA indicates that they are celebrating a decade of what they call African excellence, “with an impressive line-up of African designers preparing to introduce their Spring/Summer collections, at a new venue.”According to AFI Founder and CEO, Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, the programme is in collaboration with African fashion design royalty to offer refined African apparel and accessories at the newly built Mall of Africa.

“We are also delighted to welcome collections from young designers who are making waves in the fashion world, with the overall programme sure to grab the attention of media, industry experts and fashionistas alike. We are delighted to welcome designers from across the continent and further afield. This event attracts theattention of local and international audiences, from young and aspiringcreatives to affluent consumers who spend their disposable income in the luxury and fashion space,” she adds.She identifies designers making their debut presence at MBFWJ 2017 to include Sheria Ngowi from Tanzania, Chidinma Obairi from Nigeria and Vizuvlgvds from the United States. Several otherFashion Weekfavourites are returning to the runways.

Described as one of the largest in Africa, Mall of Africa is said to be conveniently located for a project like AFI.“We are extremely proud to host such a renowned and extravagant affair, and management looks forward to a long and fruitful relationship with African Fashion International,” Nicola van Kan, EventManager for Mall of Africa, says.
